Technology
The ITLC model provides teachers and families with a framework for using technology to promote childrenšs early literacy skills. No matter what type of computer system is used, technology can be an exciting tool for literacy.
Technology Applications
Provide an interactive, multimedia addition to emergent literacy activities
Provide activities that assist children to acquire and develop literacy and language pleasantly, productively, and appropriately
Assist children with severe disabilities to participate in literacy activities

Software
The ITLC curriculum activities are based on the use of three types of software, interactive commercial programs, interactive programs made with HyperStudio, and tool function software. Through careful selection of appropriate software and developmentally appropriate activities children are given the best opportunity for literacy development.
Interactive Commercial Software
- This category of software includes storybook types of programs, such as those made by the Living Books and other companies
HyperStudio
- HyperStudio is an authoring program in which photographs, videotaped segments, recorded voices, artwork, and text can be added to create a customized product. Teachers and children can create their own software based on authentic experiences and interests. A common theme for HyperStudio creations is a classroom's version of a favorite story.
Tool Function Software
-
Kid Pix Studio and other graphics programs provide young children with the tools for artistic expression. Children can free draw and explore the colors, brushes, and other features of the program, or create a story through selected pictures and stamps.
- KidDesk is another tool function software program which also serves as a desktop manager and a tool for sending messages to classmates.
