ITLC Curriculum
Integrated Curriculum Activities
The ITLC Curriculum provides a guide for integrating content from interactive software into classroom activities. Software based on favorite childrenšs books serve as a good springboard for a variety of activities.
Interactive Software
Stellaluna Curriculum Activity
A favorite book among preschool children is Stellaluna, the story of a baby bat who gets temporarily separated from her mother. Besides reading the book as a group, the children can interact with the story on the computer. Since the words are highlighted top to bottom and left to right, children learn this concept of print as they attend to the program. Some of the off-computer activities include making paper bats to display in the room and making paper wings so the children can pretend to be bats.
HyperStudio
Baby Book Curriculum Activity
- One ITLC classroom used HyperStudio to create a Baby Book about themselves. Families sent baby pictures to school for their children's individual page in the book. Current photographs of the children were also used along with videotape segments of the children telling what it was like to be a baby. Each child's art work was also added to their page. The children enjoyed creating the Baby Book and interacting with it over and over on the computer. The book was printed out and sent home for the children to share with their families.
