The Transfer Trail leads to the hills to the east of Glenwood Springs. It begins from Travers Road, off Rt. 6 between Glenwood Springs and West Glenwood. At various places along the way you can get views south to downtown GS, west to West Glenwood, and east to No Name. We did this hike in August, 1999.
Much of the trail is a dirt road used by 4-wheel drive vehicles. The road goes as far as the entrance to the Fairy Caves, then turns into a number of footpaths. We took one of these trails until it ended--about a three-hour hike up from Rt. 6. Parts are pretty steep, but we didn't hurt ourselves. One caution: with the opening of the Fairy Caves, there is a lot of bus and van traffic carrying tourists to the caves.

| Near the start of the trail--where the road's still pretty good. | Looking southwest. The red cliff changes colors in different light. It really does look this impressionistically pink! | ||

| The community of No Name, in Glenwood Canyon, a couple miles east of Glenwood. | Another view of the red cliff. That's a little bit of West Glenwood below. | ||

| Some rock outcropping near the top of one of the trails. We saw eagles flying here. | |||
