Welcome to my web manifestation. It is an illusion, of course, but I
hope not an unrealistic one. Proserpine adds her paradoxical greetings
to mine. "Manifestation" is my best shot, so far, at an alternative to "home
page." I do rather like the "home" part of the concept--it sounds
inviting, non-threatening, comfortable. But "page" isn't right. I don't
think we can appropriately understand what we're all doing on the web if
one of our primary metaphors is the printed page. Not that I hope to change anybody else's usage. . . . It's just one more
windmill for me to tilt at. In any event--this is my third version of this representation of
myself. The first was written just a year ago (hard to imagine that I've
been writing in HTML such a short time). It was cleaned up and updated
this past spring. This time I'm trying for a new look--or rather several
new looks, with different designs for each of the pages here (oops--I guess
I'm not ready to completely abandon the metaphor after all).

here's a photo that Cindy Selfe took of Debbie Holdstein and me at the
conference. I'm not sure if I'm laughing because I just finished my
presentation or because Debbie just cracked wise.)
