Personal Stuff
It seems to have become a
convention of Web postings to
include a page with personal notes and photos. So here's mine.
The photo, by the way, was edited from a picture of Debbie Holdstein and me taken by
Cindy Selfe at
the 1996 Computers and Writing
Conference.
Notes
- I was born on June 16, an unspecified number of years ago.
- My wedding
anniversary is June 26 (June's a busy month!).
- The other participant in that wedding was my wife Eileen, who's a lot
less reluctant than I am to acknowledge that the event occurred in 1971.
- Eileen teaches French at Macomb High School and has an MA in French
from Middlebury College (along with her MA in music performance from WIU).
Here's her web site.
- Together we take a group of French students to Paris and environs
every other year. Our next will be in March, 1998.
- Eileen and I both did our undergraduate work at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y. My
graduate work was at Rutgers.
(Here's the Rutgers
alumni page.)
- We've had a variety of
animals over the years. Currently living with us are
- Toulouse, a
white part-poodle who won't act his age
- Poulanc, an orange and white
cat who I think should have been called Chartres (since he's as big as a
cat-thedral)
- Titania, the oldest of the bunch, a black
cat of independent (euphemism) temperment
- PC, the youngest,
also a black cat of independent temperment, now two years old. I
rescued her from the street where she was just about to get
flattened by a car. Is she grateful? Nooooo!
(PC, by the way,
stands for whatever you think it does.) - Tigger, our latest addition,
who visited us frequently for several months and finally
decided to adopt us. He placed second in the 1997 Heritage Days Fat
Cat contest (weighing in at 17 pounds).
- The children in my family all belong to my brother (well, my brother
and his wife, to be accurate). John and Karen live in Florida with
Britanie, Jonathan, and Remington. And almost as many cats as we have.
- My dad's retired from General Electric (he was an accountant in
charge of General Accounting and Government Contracts for the Corporate
Research and Development Center in Schenectady). He and my mom
live in
the 200-year-old farmhouse in Colonie, New York where I was raised.
- Last year I was an inaugural inductee in the Colonie Central
High School Hall of Fame
- I enjoy cooking
and have begun making my contributions
to the collections
of recipes (does anybody actually use them?) on the web.
- I've been driving a Mazda
truck for the past few years and can't imagine how I lived without it.
- And one more thing--I spend entirely too much time finding goodies on
the web!
