Welcome to Classical Political Theory [Spring, 2001]!!

I have included two sets of instructions about logging into the course. The first is my version and the second is from the System Manager and is more complete. If you have questions her version might be useful. If the instructions are too detailed to remember, print them out. You can still bring any problems/questions to me.

(1) First Set of Instructions -- I have set up a temporary password for all students registered in Classical Political Theory. Just click on the following address for the Web Course: http://blackboard.cait.org/login/gateway_classic_frame.html Select PS 381: Classical Political Theory(Spring, 2001) from the list of courses and follow the instructions below:
  1. User Name and Password -- Your Blackboard user name is the same as your ECOM login. If you don't know your Ecom login there are two ways to find it: a) If you are an on-campus student, you can go to 126 Stipes Hall, with your student ID, and they will tell you. If you are off-campus student (or on-campus, for that matter), you can use the WIU Online Directory to look up your ECOM login. You can find a link to the Online Directory on the wiu homepage (www.wiu.edu) , but here is the direct URL to the WIU Online Directory:

    After locating your record in this database, the last field, \"unix_login\" is where the ECOM login is listed. This is your BlackBoard username (and WebCT login, for that matter).

    After typing in your user name your initial password is your full nine-digit student id.

  2. Change Password -- You should change your password once you have logged on the first time. [To change your password click on Student Tools -- left side blue column -- and then click on Change Your Information. You will see the option at the bottom of the page to change your password. Student passwords for BlackBoard are initially your full 9-digit student ID. We recommend that you change your password to the last four digits of your student ID.

    After you have logged in:
    1. Go to the STUDENT TOOLS button, and click \"Change Your Information\".
    2. Check and change your e-mail address, if it's not accurate.
    3. On this same page, change your password to the last four digits of your student ID. (You must type these 4 digits twice. Don't forget to click the button that submits each of these changes.)
  3. My Email Address -- If you have problems my email address is c-helm@wiu.edu, telephone # 298-1055, Office # Morgan 422.
  4. Send Email -- Good luck and send me an email using Blackboard.

Personal Logins

2) Second Set of Instructions -- On or after January 8th, if you are enrolled in this course, you will be issued a personal login.

Your username will be your WIU Universal UserID (previously referred to as \"ECOM login\"). These logins have been automatically assigned to you. If you don't know your WIU Universal login, you can use the WIU Online Directory to determine it. The WIU Online Directory is available from the WIU homepage (www.wiu.edu), or you can go directly to the following URL:

At this URL, type in your first and last name, separated by a space, in the name field. Then, click the DO QUERY button. Once you locate your record, your WIU Universal ID is located in the last field, labeled \"unix_login\". (Call the Academic Computing Help Desk, (309) 298-2704, if you can't locate this information, or if you're on campus, stop by 126 Stipes Hall with your student ID.)

Your password for BlackBoard is initially your full 9-digit student ID number (which may or may not be your social security number). The first time you log in using your personal login, please change your password from your 9 digit student ID number, to the last four digits of your student ID. Check and change your e-mail address, as well, if it is not correct. You accomplish both of these chores via the STUDENT TOOLS button, under \"Change Your Information.\"

BlackBoard Main Page

The main page for BlackBoard at Western Illinois University is located at:

http://blackboard.cait.org

Once you have been issued a personal login, go to this site, then click the LOGIN button. After keying in your personal username and password, you will see your \"MyBlackBoard\" area. Here, under \"My Courses\", you see a listing of any BlackBoard course(s) for which you currently have a personal login. Your login should be the same for all classes you might have using BlackBoard.

NOTE: Please do NOT create your own personal login--we will do this for you, or your instructor will.
