Semester grades will be determined as follows: Exams (4 x 50pts each)=200pts Final Exam = 50pts Microbiology web site review 15pts Microbiology journal article review 15 pts Lab. Total (quizzes, worksheets, particip.) =160pts (12 highest quizzes x 10pts =120 pts 40 Worksheets x 1pt= 40 pts 12 Video question sheets x 5pts =60pts Lab. Participation*) TOTAL 500pts * one point will be deducted for each laboratory period missed Unannounced lecture quizzes may be given if needed. |
Grade calculation: A = 90-100% B = 80-89% C = 70-79% D = 60-69% F = below 60% Attendance is expected at all lectures and labs. Syllabus subject to change with notice. |

Purpose of course: To provide an introduction to microbiology for majors and non-majors. Types of examinations: Lecture exams may include multiple choice, matching and possibly questions requiring written explanations or labeling of drawings; Laboratory quizzes will be short answer questions that may require written explanations Outside work required: reading of textbook chapters and laboratory manual, research and review writing Deadlines for worksheets and video questions will be announced in lab.
