This page gives a brief description of the classes I teach at WIU. More information can be found at http://mvs.wiu.edu/stars.html and http://www.wiu.edu/biology/courses/

ZOOL 414G (Ichthyology)
The study of fishes, concentrating on the fishes of Illinois. Students will learn about fish anatomy, biology, and ecology. We study all the families of fish found in Illinois, and students will also learn to identifiy 70+ Illinois fish species.
  ZOOL 451G (Animal Ecology)
This course focuses on the relationship of organisms to each other and to their environment.

BIOL 452G (Biological
Applications of GIS)
A course for people wanting to use Geographic Information Systems to study biological interactions (this class is more for "ecology types"). We cover basic GIS and GPS, and we work our way up to more advanced techniques. Each student will complete their own GIS project and make a poster showing their results.

BIOL 501(Biometrics)
Introductory biological statistics. Students learn basic statistical technique and theory as well as how to use SAS for their statistical analysis.

ZOOL(BOT ) 554 (Limnology)
Limnology is the study of freshwater lakes. We discuss the inorganic and organic processes that drive freshwater lakes, such as temperature stratification, nutrient cycles, algae productivity, and zooplankton.

ZOOL 561 (Fish Management)
In Fish Management we discuss the theory and techniques used to manipulate fish communities. Students will learn about sampling techniques, management strategies, aging techniques, and many other aspects of fish management. Each student will complete a management plan for a local fish community.
