ECom Services
ECom is a collection of services offered to WIU students, staff and faculty. These services include:
- A unique email address on WIU’s Collaboration Suite (which includes email, calendaring, document sharing, etc.) with 1GB storage space
- 300mb of space on the ECom servers which can be used for web pages and/or personal file storage
- All other services that require the use of a WIU ECom username/password (i.e. computer labs and Western Online)
- These accounts provide access to many WIU computing resources including campus email, UNIX systems, Western Online, web page publishing and more.
Creating an ECom Account
ECom user accounts are automatically generated for students, faculty and staff when they are accepted as students or hired into the campus community. New students are mailed a tri-fold brochure which includes their WIU ID number, ECom username, WIU email address, and a temporary id card. Corresponding information is also available when students receive their registration packets and through your STARS account under the address section. Faculty and staff receive their username and email address from their department.
Activating your ECom Account
Before you can use your ECom username or WIU email account, you must activate your account on our GUAVA webpage.
It is import to think about your choosing a password before you activate your account. Your password protects your account from unauthorized access and maintains the privacy of your email messages and files. It also prevents other users from posing as you to perform malicious or illegal operations. Your password should be easy for you to remember but difficult for other people to guess. A good password consists of a combination of letters and other characters, often with unusual spelling and/or capitalization. To keep other people from guessing your password, do not use words such as your favorite color, the names of friends, family members or pets, or numbers such as your birth date or telephone number.

If you suspect that another person may have access to your account, change your password immediately. Please note, you can only use GUAVA to change your password. If you change your password using the utilities in Microsoft Windows or in programs like Microsoft Outlook, your ECom password will not change.
