Increase Capacity and Speed of WIU Internet

Status: Under construction (completion August-September 2008)

Faster Internet Access and Increased Reliability

Second Point of Telecommunications Egress for WIU-Macomb: Previously all telephone and data circuits came thought Sherman Hall and there was no failover in the event of a disaster. An additional point of Egress provides disaster recovery. This fiber based second point of egress expands Internet capacity, too.

Status: Under construction (completion June 2008)

Dark Fiber Path between Macomb and Quad Cities Campus

Dark Fiber: The use of dark fiber will speed up all communications between WIU and QC. It allows for unlimited growth and capacity between the two locations.

Faculty Computer Replacement Program

Faculty computers will be replaced on a 4 year rotation. As of May 2008, 200 computers have been replaced.

Electronic Classroom Upgrade and Development Program

Currently 12 electronic classrooms are under construction and due to be completed by August 2008. The program identified a total of 90 classrooms for upgrade within the next three years. The ultimate goal is to develop ongoing funding and support so that all WIU and WIU-QC classrooms can be turned into electronic classrooms.
