Brooks Memorial Park Project
GWENDOLYN BROOKS
PARK PROJECT
Western Illinois University invites you to join us in celebrating one of our most historic cultural areas on campus. On the site of the original Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center is the recently dedicated
Gwendolyn Brooks Memorial Park
.
As of June 2021, $52, 875.73 has been raised for the Gwendolyn Brooks Memorial Park Project. The goal of $50,000 to create the park was exceeded!
For more than 40 years the Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center provided a safe haven for our African American students who wished to study, converse and gather together, The Center was located adjacent to the Alumni Center and across West Adams Street from Lake Ruth.
Although the park has been opened, there is still work to be done to further expand the beauty and the majesty of this cultural centerpiece. We seek your support.
Gifts of all sizes are welcome. Your gift at one of the sponsorship levels ensures your name will become a permanent fixture on this historic site at Western Illinois University. Please consider a gift to support the Gwendolyn Brooks Memorial Park Project today!
