WIU Logo Creation Policy

The primary logo for Western Illinois University is the Sherman Hall bell tower logo. The primary logo for Athletics is the "Western Illinois Leathernecks" sweep with the Rocky head. In addition, Athletics has a secondary logo and two complimentary Rocky logos. The University Marketing Office has a variety of preferred and restricted use logos that can be used on hard or soft goods and in print or on the web with permission from University Marketing. For further information on these logos including visual representations of these logos, go to pages 5-9 of the University's Visual Identity Guide at wiu.edu/visualidentity or visit wiu.edu/trademark.

University Marketing strongly discourages the creation and use of additional logos to represent other areas, offices, departments, or organizations on campus. There are times when exceptions are made to this policy. Exceptions are granted by the office of University Marketing.

Requests and cases to be made for the creation of additional logos (e.g. college, department or organization "anniversary" logo) must be forwarded to Document and Publication Services (DPS) for review. If the request is approved, Document and Publication Services (DPS) may create an official color and black and white version of the logo (there may be a fee for these services). DPS will grant final approval if the design is submitted by the department. DPS can be contacted at (309) 298-1000.

The official university logo (the Sherman Hall bell tower) must be the PRIMARY logo on all printed pieces, web pages, etc. A college, department, office or organizational logo must be the SECONDARY logo that is used in tandem with the official university logo. For policies on the use or creation of Athletics logos, contact Athletics at (309) 298-1190 or view the Visual Identity Guidelines downloadable PDF.
