Jody Young

Procurement Officer
Purchasing Office

"I like to help people or to help find a better way of doing something."

Jody works in the Purchasing Office as a Procurement Officer. Her duties/responsibilities include bidding—seeking the best prices for our departments, writing purchasing orders, processing invoices for payment, working with vendors, and following many state and university regulations.

Jody worked part-time in the banking industry while she was a student at WIU. After she graduated, she applied at Western, and was hired into her first position as a Secretary III in the Extension & Continuing Education Dept. "My first supervisor was Joyce Nielsen. That was in 1995. I have been in Purchasing since 2005," Jody shared.

Working with people is Jody's favorite part of her job. "I have established good working relationships with vendors. I like to help people or to help find a better way of doing something." Jody adds, "My co-workers in Purchasing are great! They are always here for me, and we have each other's back. It's a good department to work in."

In her spare time, Jody enjoys attending campus events. "I recently participated in the Fallen Soldiers 5-K Run/Walk for the first time. I also like to attend the Alumni events whenever possible. Western has much to offer outside the work place." Jody's favorite season is fall, and she enjoys spending time with her 'baby' Copper, a yellow lab; going on the scenic drive with her mom, and riding in the combine with her dad during harvest time.

HR salutes Jody Young as one of our many committed Civil Service employees at WIU!
