Scott Lawson

Information Technology Technical Associate
University Technology - Web Services

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

Scott works for University Technology as an Information Technology Technical Associate specializing in web design and development, primarily for the Division of Administrative Services. Scott’s journey to Western began when he attended WIU as an undergrad in the Broadcasting Dept. He then earned his Master’s Degree in Instructional Design & Technology. Following his undergrad years, he managed Camera Land in downtown Macomb for five years. In 2008, Scott began working at WIU as a Web Master and was located in the Document Publication Services suite. In 2015, he was moved into the University Technology area from Administrative Services.

Scott enjoys challenges where every day is different. He shared, “I like finding creative solutions to problems. I enjoy being able to improve the design of web sites to make them look newer and easier to use.” (Check out the new HR web site…GREAT JOB, Scott!) Scott is the wizard behind the curtain, making magic on the screen!

Scott credits three people as being instrumental in helping him in his career at WIU. Sean O’Donnell-Brown was his supervisor at the DPS location. Jeremy Merritt allowed him to bounce ideas off of him and shared a great deal. Zach Pratt taught him a lot as well. Each of these individuals helped him to be where he is now.

When Scott is not working at WIU, he is one of the Leatherneck Football Team’s greatest fans! Since 1996, he has only missed 10 home games, and makes it to many away games as well. Scott’s love for WIU runs deep. He also serves as the WIU Band Alumni Coordinator at Homecoming and for Pep Band at Basketball games. This program has really grown over the recent years!

Scott also enjoys traveling with his family. His wife Sarah also works at the university. They have two children, Addison-9 years old and Ethan-5 years old. You can often see him out for a run around campus!

HR salutes Scott Lawson as one of our many committed Civil Service employees at WIU!
