Floyd "Joe" Ackerman

Assistant Facilities Manager
Operations & Maintenance, QC Campus

"There is nothing permanent except change."
―Heraclitus

Joe Ackerman began his career at Western Illinois University, Quad Cities Campus in May 2011 as a temporary employee. In November 2011, he was hired into his present position. Joe is responsible for maintaining the Quad Cities Campus buildings and grounds ensuring they are kept to Western’s high standards as well as making sure the campus is a safe environment for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Joe’s journey to his current position began even before he was hired. He was a non-traditional student at WIU in 2009, and worked for the Facilities Dept. as a student worker, until he graduated in 2011. Joe enjoys working with the employees and students at WIU. He shared, “Everyone treats each other with respect! It’s a great place to work.”

Joe’s most memorable experience at work was the day the QC Campus moved from 60th Street to the new facilities at River Drive. That was definitely an undertaking that required everyone’s help! Joe stated, “Every day is the best day at work!”

Joe’s supervisors, Steve Whan and Bill Brewer, have been great mentors for Joe. He stated, “They have helped me to grow in my career.” Investing in others is what WIU does best! Joe enjoys seeing all the new faces coming in at the beginning of a new semester.

When Joe isn’t making our campus beautiful, you can find him playing with his favorite people…his grandchildren! He enjoys fishing too!

HR salutes Floyd "Joe" Ackerman as one of our many committed Civil Service employees at WIU!
