Alexa Ashenhurst

Office Support Specialist
Foundation and Development Office

"Love is a verb."

Alexa works in the Foundation & Development Office as an Office Support Specialist. She began her WIU career in June 2013. Her primary duties are to assist the Director of Special Events with a variety of events each year and to also assist with the WIU Phone-A-Thon. Alexa enjoys working the special events. She shared, "I worked for Mick Cumbie when I was a student here. That was the first real job I ever had. He was wonderful to help me figure things out and threw me into situations and allowed me to sink or swim. He was a good mentor! I also had an opportunity to help Amy Spelman with Alumni events. Both of those experiences helped prepare me for working in this position. I like watching the event unfold and the enjoyment of the attendees." One of Alexa's most memorable experiences was her first day of work at WIU. She explained, "I was born and raised in Macomb and I went to WIU for my undergrad. My goal was to someday work here. I remember especially the walk up to Sherman Hall on my first day as an employee instead of a student. I felt like it was the first day of the rest of my life!" Alexa enjoys attending the WIU events sponsored by the Performing Arts Society, the Bureau of Cultural Affair events, and anything relating to fine arts.

Alexa spends her spare time with friends, her two dogs, and she has a love for reading.

HR salutes Alexa Ashenhurst as one of our many committed Civil Service employees at WIU!
