The Western Illinois University Bookstore will be open for book rental returns beginning Monday, May 4th through Sunday, May 10th, 9:00am-5:00pm daily. Students wishing to drop off their textbooks in person will be directed to enter the Union at the Northwest Entrance (up the ramp at food court entry).

  • Students must have had temperature taken and be in a posession of a WIU day pass issued in each Residence Hall Information Desk, OPS (Before 9:30am), or Beu Health Center.
  • Students must have a face covering/mask on when inside the Union Building. If you do not have a mask, you will be asked to exit the building.
  • The University Union will ensure that proper social distancing protocols are being implemented, as well as enhanced cleaning and sanitization measures in place.
  • Students will be limited to just one person per family allowed in the building.
  • Only the student who owns or rented the books may be the individual to return or sell them.
  • Only Book return/buy-back will be available. No retail operations will be available to the public.

You can return your book rentals to the WIU Bookstore using a prepaid UPS label that will be emailed to you. Please watch your email for a prepaid label that will be sent to you from pkginfo@UPS.com.

If you choose to use the prepaid return label, please be sure you ship no later than May 22nd to ensure your books arrive to us before the May 29th due date.

Please include on the package in BIG BOLD LETTERS: YOUR NAME & WIU ID NUMBER so that our staff can quickly register it into the system when received.

If you do not return the books by the due date, we will charge the securing credit card you provided at the time of purchase for the fees as indicated above. Please refer to our rental agreement for more details.

You have entered into a rental agreement with our bookstore to loan you one copy of a selected title. Rental textbooks are the intellectual property of the author(s) and are copyrighted by the author(s) or publishers. Textbooks rentals are not to be reproduced. The rental agreement is only effective for the current semester. Per terms of this agreement, you are responsible for the following:

  • I understand that all titles for rent are property of the bookstore.
  • Materials are returned in the appropriate condition: clean, without writing or highlighting, and without notes. You agree to be billed for the full publisher’s price of the materials if any of the items are damaged or missing.
  • Materials are returned on or before the date they are due. You agree to be billed for the price of the materials if they are not returned on time.
  • If you wish to keep your rental materials, the rental fee will be applied to the price of the items you want to own.
  • Non-returned materials are charged a late fee.

The University Bookstore will be open and available for individuals to sell their books back in person. Please reference the information above regarding "In-person" return.

We have also partnered with a wholesaler to offer a third-party book buy-back service for non-rented books that you'd like to sell. Information for this service is included on the WIU Bookstore Website.

Please note that our in-store buyback prices may vary from the online buyback prices.

It is imperative to remember to NOT SELL RENTED books.

You must return ALL of your textbooks to the Bookstore! This includes rentals, non-rentals and any calculators you received from us. If you choose to return in person, please reference the information above regarding "In-person" return. You may use the prepaid UPS label as described above and send through the mail.

If you have any questions, please contact the WIU Bookstore.
