Leathernecks In Training
Thank you to all who participated in the Leathernecks in Training kick-off events on Thursday, January 19! Over 115 people attended or have expressed interest in training to walk or run a 5k, 10k, or half-marathon. It is not to late to join the program, so if you would like to join, please contact Dana Biernbaum (DM-Biernbaum@wiu.edu) or Judy Yeast (JA-Yeast@wiu.edu) for the details.
Remember, the semester-long training program culminates with Team Leatherneck traveling to participate in the Bridge the Gap to Health run/walk in Quincy, Illinois on May 12, 2012. But you do NOT have to attend the Quincy events in order to join Leathernecks in Training. There will be plenty of other opportunities to participate in runs/walks in the surrounding area this Spring. The main purpose for this program is to encourage employees and members of the community to get active, to meet people, to set a personal goal, to commit to it, to train for it, and to achieve it!
WIU Employees may participate in the training program for FREE. Non-employee participants will be asked to contribute a small fee of $20 to help cover training program costs. The Bridge the Gap run/walk entry fee (to be paid by each participant) is $25 for the 5k, $30 for the 10k, and $50 for the half marathon. Transportation to Quincy and a Team Leatherneck technical tee will be provided at no additional cost. More information on these logistics will be shared in upcoming team meetings.
