Quad Cities Marathon
Are you ready for the Midwest's favorite marathon? The Quad Cities Marathon, a USATF certified course is held annually on the fourth Sunday in September. The 26.2 mile run starts and ends at 1201 River Drive in downtown Moline, IL. The event benefits two worthy causes: prostate cancer research & screening and the Erika Kate Foundation, helping families of children with life threatening heart conditions. The flat and fast course features one of the finest, most scenic river views in the country. It covers 5 races, 4 cities, 3 bridges, 2 states, and 1 island, all along the mighty Mississippi River.
Do you want to participate in The Quad Cities Marathon but prefer a shorter distance? Recruit your team of five runners and make it a team effort. It's fun and easy! We shuttle you to your transition area and then back to the finish area once you are done running. There will be a Relay Regroup Area about a block before the Finish Line for those relay teams wishing to finish together as a team across the Finish Line. Every team member will receive a great Finisher's Medal.
Do you want to participate in the Midwest's favorite race event, but prefer the distance of a half marathon? The Quad Cities Marathon's fastest growing event is the Half Marathon. With the same start and finish as the Marathon, this 13.1 mile race features all the bridges and spectacular views of the marathon route with lots of entertainment and support.
An out and back course. It's fun, flat and full of energy. The 5K is open to all ages and abilities, runners and walkers alike. Be one of the first to enjoy the refreshments and live music at the rocking APAC Post Race Party. It's also a fun and relaxed way to be able to join in the Group O Corporate or Non-Profit Challenge.
Fallen Soldiers 5K Run/Walk
October 10th, 2015
In October 2014, more than 500 runners and walkers joined forces to raise over $20,000 by participating in Western Illinois University's 3rd Annual Fallen Soldiers 5k Run/Walk, and event organizers hope to see over 550 in this year's event.
The event is designed as a fundraiser for the Fallen Soldier's Scholarship Fund in honor of two WIU alumni who were killed in the line of duty, Capt. Derek Dobogai and Lt. Col. Robert Baldwin. Dobogai, who graduated from Western in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in law enforcement and justice administration, was among the 14 U.S. soldiers aboard a Black Hawk helicopter that crashed Aug. 22, 2007 in northern Iraq. Baldwin, who earned a bachelor's degree in industrial technology from WIU in 1993, was killed Sept. 21, 2010 when his Blackhawk UH-60 helicopter carrying Navy SEALs crashed during combat operations in the Zabul province of Afghanistan.
Money raised from the 5k Run/Walk is directed toward the WIU Fallen Soldiers Scholarship Fund, which supports veterans and service members currently enrolled at Western. Additional donations are welcome. The entry fee is $25 per person, and pre-registration is due by Sept. 28th ($35 registration after 9/28).
While the scholarship and program will continue to honor the men for whom the scholarship was established, each year the event will also recognize the recipients of scholarships that are awarded in the preceding year.
