PROGRAM:
Liza Lehmann (1862 - 1918)
Liza Lehmann was an English composer and professional soprano during the romantic period. She was well known for her song cycles, such as The Daisy Chain and In a Persian Garden, as well as her novelty and parlor songs, notably Evensong and There are Fairies at the Bottom of Our Garden. Light operas and piano works are included among her compositions, but she is primarily known for her song cycles and solo songs. Her music ranges from songs about childlike innocence, as in her song cycle More Daisies, to youthful exuberance in works like Songs of a Flapper, and to larger pieces such as In Memoriam, which tackles death and existentialism.
