Western EMS is an Illinois licensed Basic Life Support service. Our primary coverage area is the WIU campus and surrounding areas. We provide secondary coverage to the city of Macomb through mutual aid agreements with McDonough District Hospital.
Our service is free. There is no charge to the patient for our crews to respond and evaluate a patient or to provide treatment. Our budget is obtained through the Council on Student Activity Fees (CSAF).
Western EMS is a registered student organization with the Office of Student Activities. Western EMS works closley with the Office of Public Safety through it's advisor.
Western EMS does not provide Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) courses. There are numerous opportunities for EMT courses in McDonough County & other areas. Western Illinois University offers a course through the Health Department that is two semesters long, and Spoon River College offers an EMT course as well that is one semester long.
