Take Back the Night Rally to end power-based interpersonal violence
Time: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Location: Sherman Hall front steps
Description: Take Back The Night is about awareness, empowerment, prevention, and the chance to visibly fight against power-based interpersonal violence.

The Rally will begin at 7:00 p.m. on the steps of Sherman Hall with resource tables set up at 6:30 p.m. This year’s theme is in direct response to the dehumanizing Robin Thicke song, “Blurred Lines.” The TBTN planning committee wants the community to know that the law is clear, and when it comes to consent there are no gray areas or blurred lines. With that being said, “It’s Black and White, Take Back the Night!”

In addition to several survivor speak-out participants, our featured speaker this year will be WIU alumna Kerri True-Funk, Director of R.A.C.E.S. (Rape. Advocacy. Counseling. Education Services) in Urbana, IL.

Locally, this is the 24th annual TBTN March and Rally. We hold the March and Rally during October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Every year it continues to grow, with more and more support from the WIU and Macomb communities. The event is sponsored by the WIRC-CAA Victim Services Agency and the WIU Women's Center, with support from the Interpersonal Violence Prevention Initiative, University Counseling Center, WIU and local police, Feminist Action Alliance, and numerous other campus and community offices, agencies, and organizations.

TBTN marches have occurred since the 1970s at university campuses and in communities around the country to help educate women and men about violence prevention and rousources in our communities – specifically sexual violence, such as sexual assault/rape, incest, child abuse, domestic violence and stalking. TBTN goes beyond education by helping to empower us all to find our voice against these day-to-day outrages across their multicultural dimensions.

Please join us and help make a successful and empowering event for everyone involved!
