- Legal History Lecture: Magna Carta and the Charter of the Forest

- Description: This lecture on the early history of the English common law, sponsored by the Department of History, is offered by Joshua C. Tate, Associate Professor of Law at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. Professor Tate, whose specialty is medieval legal history, has both a Ph.D. in History and a J.D. from Yale.
This lecture on the Magna Carta and the Charter of the Forest commemorates the 800th anniversary of the latter. Professor Tate will use these two charters of King Henry III to illustrate the difficulty of defining fundamental rights.
