Reformation 500: Martin Luther and the Origins of the Reformation
Time: 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Location: University Union Sandburg Theatre
Description: On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther posted his Ninety-Five Theses, questioning the Church's policies and procedures concerning salvation. That event has long been heralded as the official start of the Protestant Reformation, and 2017 marks its 500th anniversary. This roundtable discussion, featuring WIU faculty from History, Religious Studies, and Music, joins events around the world examining the impact of Luther and religious reform. Participants include Professors Amy Carr, Ute Chamberlin, Anita Hardeman, and Jennifer McNabb, who will each speak on different aspects of Luther's life, theology, and legacy, and audience members will be invited to take part in a Q&A session following the presentations.
