- Time: 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
- Location: Wesley United Methodist Church, Calhoun St, Macomb IL
- Description: On Monday, December 9th, the McDonough Choral Society will be presenting its fall concert at 7:30 pm in the Wesley United Methodist Church under the direction of its founding director, Susan Shoemaker. She will be conducting the nine-member orchestra along with WIU Prof. Lynn Thompson on organ.
Guest soprano, Elizabeth Ryterski, will be performing with the choral group on Norwegian composer Kim Arnesen’s “Magnificat,” a work written in 2010. Arneson describes it as “a song of praise about the angel Gabriel visiting Mary with the message that she will be the mother of God’s son.”
Ms. Ryterski is a senior Music Therapy and Performance Major at Western Illinois University. Among her most recent achievements, she was a 2019 National semi-finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition and an Encouragement Award Recipient at the 2019 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. In February, she took home the 2019 Grand Prize and First Place titles at the Talent Among Us competition in Jacksonville, Illinois.
In addition to Arnesen’s “Magnificat,” the fifty-member choral group will be performing “And the Glory of the Lord,” and the “Hallelujah” Chorus from Handel’s Messiah, Rosephanye Powell’s “Ring the Bells,” and Christus Natus Est,” Charles Ives “A Christmas Carol,” Bob Chilcott’s “Jesus is Springing,” and “The Nine Gifts,” and “On Christmas Night,” a traditional Christmas carol arranged by Barbara Baltzer Kinyon.
The performance is presented for one night only and is free to the public. A short reception will be held following the performance.
