- Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
- Location: The Garden Lounge of Malpass Library
- Description: University Libraries is pleased to host Richard Filipink, Associate Professor in the WIU Department of History, as he presents “The March on Washington – 50 Years Later” on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Noon in the Garden Lounge.
August 28 marks the 50th Anniversary of the "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom," a key event in the history of the Civil Rights Movement.
One of the least remembered elements of the March was the evolution of the Kennedy administration’s reaction from the initial announcement by a coalition of major Civil Rights’ organizations to the ultimate achievement of carrying out what was then the largest political protest march in Washington’s history.
This talk will examine the actions and attitudes of the Kennedy administration, the political impact of the March, and the legacy of that impact.
Please join us on Wednesday, August 28th at 12:00.
