Casa Latina Cultural Center, Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center, the Women's Center, and the Interpersonal Violence Prevention Initiative will have their open houses jointly. Please stop by and visit staff and students for some refreshments and a tour of the Centers!

In celebration of Women's Equality Day, commemorating the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920 giving women in the U.S. the right to vote and calling attention to women's continuing struggle for full equality, the Women's Center invites new students and other members of our campus community to join us for a discussion with members of the League of Women Voters of McDonough County about opportunities for involvement in the League's activities, and well as opportunities for involvement in the Women's Center and its affiliated student organizations. LWVMC members will be available to do voter registration (bring two forms of ID, one with current address).

Oct. 17, 2013: Take Back the Night Rally to end power-based interpersonal violence

Take Back The Night is about awareness, empowerment, and the chance to visibly fight against power-based interpersonal violence. What started out as a protest rally against pornography during the Women's Movement in the 1970s has turned into a national event.

Locally, this is the 24th annual TBTN March and Rally. We hold the March and Rally during October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Every year it continues to grow, with more and more support from the WIU and Macomb communities. The event is sponsored by the WIRC-CAA Victim Services Agency and the WIU Women's Center, with support from the Interpersonal Violence Prevention Initiative, University Counseling Center, WIU and local police, and numerous other campus and community offices, agencies, and organizations.

Please join us and help make a successful and empowering event for everyone involved!

The public is invited to an opening reception for the Western Illinois University Women's Center's ''Women's Art: Women's Vision'' Art Exhibit, from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 1 in the Multicultural Center.
The exhibit will run through the month of March. The purpose of this exhibit is to bring recognition to established artists and to encourage beginning artists to keep pursuing their talents. The exhibit also provides an opportunity to pay tribute to all of the women throughout history who, because of their gender, were denied admission to art academies; were not acknowledged for their talents; and were not included in art history books.
