Undergraduate Majors, Minors & Programs of Study
A separate major under Biological Sciences, graduates of our program receive a B.S. degree in Clinical Laboratory Science.
Clinical laboratory scientists perform laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis of disease or assess response to treatment under the direction of a pathologist. At WIU, students develop the ability to work closely with other health care professionals, use complex and precise instruments, and gain a solid background in the sciences.
Why Clinical Laboratory Science at WIU?
Each student in the Clinical Laboratory Science major completes three years of study at WIU, including many liberal arts courses, and a fourth year at an affiliated hospital-sponsored school of clinical laboratory science.
We also offer a "4 + 1" program for those students who are not accepted into our affiliated hospitals as a "3 + 1."
The "4 + 1" students graduate with a B.S. in Biology from WIU, then they can reapply to our affiliated hospitals.
Students planning to major in Clinical Laboratory Science should complete three years of mathematics and one year each of biology, physics, and chemistry in high school.
