Zoology is the branch of biology that deals with animals and animal life - including the study of the structure, physiology, development, and classification of animals. At WIU, Zoology is an option of study under the Bachelor of Science in Biology; where the Laboratory of Sensory Biology coordinates research opportunities for students.
Zoology prepares students for a broad spectrum of job opportunities, including research, pharmaceuticals, and wildlife preserves. Many students majoring in Zoology pursue graduate work in the Graduate Certificate in Zoo and Aquaria Studies or Master of Science in Biology, both available at WIU.
Students planning to major in Zoology should complete three years of mathematics and one year each of biology, physics, and chemistry in high school.
