Degree Option in Instructional Methods and Training
The field of instructional technology is growing and diversifying. As this occurs, a need arises for practitioners to specialize into well-recognized sub-fields. Graduates of the IDT undergraduate program are experiencing this need to focus on relevant specializations.
Currently, and well into the foreseeable future, practitioners of instructional technology are called upon to be experts in the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of instructional materials and methods for use in corporate and higher education training.
The Instructional Methods and Training option will allow students to have this important sub-field designated on their transcripts. By so doing, it will increase their ability to find employment as designers and developers of multimedia and web-based instruction, as well as provide a sharper focus for their professional career goals.
The faculty in the Department of Instructional Design Technology are knowledgeable, professional and committed to providing you with the best education available anywhere. Faculty members have extensive experience in their fields, enjoying national and international reputations for their contributions. And all faculty actively engage in ongoing research and field work, which means that you will learn only the most current real-world solutions, techniques and applications. Instructional Design and Technology classes are small, ranging from 12 to 25 students per class, so you will have many chances to interact with your instructors. You will have their support as you progress through your program.
With an emphasis on hands-on experience, team work and real-world applications, WIU's Instructional Design and Technology program is practical, comprehensive and flexible enough to support your individual career goals.
Western's Department of Instructional Design and Technology has become a national leader in instructional technology, distance learning and interactive multimedia through its well-rounded yet highly focused curriculum.
Specifically, the program is designed around the following four areas:
- The design and production of training programs.
- Media production of instructional and training programs, including digital video, digital graphics, interactive multimedia, Web page design, multi-image slides and electronic presentations.
- Technology applications in training, including latest hardware and software applications.
- Technology-based delivery systems such as computer-based instruction, CD-ROM, video, and the Internet/WWW.
One of the unique and most exciting aspects of the IDT program is that while you will be well-grounded in the various aspects of instructional development and technology, you can choose to concentrate with your electives.
