Poet KB to Serve as Fred Ewing Case and Lola Case Writer-in-Residence Sept. 15

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of English will host the Fred Ewing Case and Lola Case Writer-in-Residence Thursday, Sept. 15.

This year's author is KB Brookins, also known as KB, a Black/queer/transmasculine poet, essayist, and cultural worker from Fort Worth, TX.

A craft talk with KB will be held at 3 p.m. in the third floor auditorium of Sherman Hall, followed by a reading and question and answer session at 5 p.m.

KB's writing has been published in the Academy of American Poets, Huffington Post, American Poetry Review, Teen Vogue, Electric Literature, Okayplayer, Oxford American and elsewhere. They are the author of "How To Identify Yourself with a Wound" (Kallisto Gaia Press, 2022), a chapbook selected by ire'ne laura silva as winner of the Saguaro Poetry Prize. They have earned fellowships from PEN America, Broadway Advocacy Coalition, Lambda Literary and The Watering Hole, among others. Their poem, "Good Grief," won the Academy of American Poets 2022 Treehouse Climate Action Poem Prize.

The series is sponsored by the WIU Department of English, the Fred Ewing Case and Lola Austin Case Writer-in-Residence program and the WIU College of Arts and Sciences.

The Fred Ewing Case and Lola Austin Case Writer-in-Residence supports bringing national writers of poetry and fiction to WIU each year.
