October 12, 2005
MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois UniversityÂ’s College of Fine Arts and Communication University Dance Theatre is teaming with MagnoliaÂ’s Restaurant for an evening of entertainment, dining and fundraising Wednesday, Oct. 26 at The Forum, 124 N. Lafayette, Macomb.
The gala evening of Gulf Coast-style dining and dance theatre, sponsored by Citizens National Bank, begins at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Gifts will be raffled off throughout the evening. Funds raised will benefit WesternÂ’s University Dance Theatre and The ARK (The Arts Remember Katrina).
“We are so excited and pleased to be able to offer this dinner and dance theatre at The Forum as a way to raise funds and to pay tribute to our Southern friends so devastated by Hurricane Katrina and then Hurricane Rita,” said Candice Winters-March, co-director of University Dance Theatre (UDT) in the department of theatre and dance. “Magnolia’s food, of course, will be exceptional; and we’ll offer a delightful sampling of theatre dance ranging from ballet to contemporary. We’ll also have a special appearance by local singer Ashley Hart.”
This will be the first dance performance in the newly-restored venue. Local resident Ruth Morgan gave the last tap dance performance in the theatre in the 1920s, Winters-March added.
Student dancers and choreographers include Kirsten Wallgren (Arlington Heights, IL), a senior kinesiology major and dance minor; Rachel Mullins (Carpentersville, IL), a junior social work major and dance minor; Joann Scott (Galesburg, IL), a senior psychology major and dance minor; Karla Beltchenko (Libertyville, IL), a senior social work major with minors in dance and sociology; Andrea Roach, (Libertyville, IL), a sophomore history major and pre-law minor; Lindsey Strott (Quincy, IL), a senior kinesiology major and dance minor; Brittany Scholz (Quincy, IL), a psychology major with minors in sociology and dance; and Samantha Stewart (Burlington, IA), a senior Spanish major and dance minor.
Faculty dancers include Winters-March, UDT co-director Heidi Clemmens, and Denise Brakefield.
The five-course meal will include Bayou combo appetizer, Gumbo Ya Ya soup, Southern citrus salad, Cajun chicken pasta (not spicy), Key Lime or Mississippi mud pie, coffee and soft drinks. Prices are $40, $35 and $30, which reflect the closeness to the stage. A childrenÂ’s menu is available for $15. A cash bar will also be available.
