MACOMB, IL – When Western Illinois University alumnus and Alumni Council member Kevin Akers ‘89 ‘94 and his now 13-year-old son Collin sent in an application and video for a special “Family Fear Factor,” little did they know that they would soon be on their way to Universal Studios in Orlando, FL to eat bugs and perform stunts many of us would look at and exclaim “No way!”

In 2004 the duo applied for the show, and from there went through an extensive interview process before making the cut out of more than 30,000 applicants. During Summer 2005, Kevin and Collin traveled to Universal Studios to film the one-hour “Family Fear Factor,” which airs tomorrow (July 11) at 7 p.m. (CST) on NBC. The duo will compete against three other family pairs. While Akers had to sign an agreement to remain mum on the show’s outcome until it aired on national television, he guarantees those watching will be surprised.

While attending Western, the Geneseo (IL) native was a member of the Leathernecks Football team. He has been a member of WesternÂ’s Alumni Council since 2004.
