MACOMB, IL - - Public vehicle access to West Murray Street (C.T. Vivian Way) from Western Avenue to just east of Mowbray Hall will be closed, effective Monday, Oct. 22 (changed from Oct. 18) for construction of the Western Illinois University Multicultural Center, according to Ted Renner, construction project coordinator.

During construction, gates will be placed on C.T. Vivian Way (Murray Street) at the Beu Health Center, at the crosswalk at the west side of Sallee Hall and at the east edge of Mowbray Hall. Throughout the construction process the south (eastbound) lane of the roadway will be accessible to emergency vehicles and University service vehicles.

An alternate drop-off point for people traveling by vehicle to the University Union for major events will be available at the Union's lower level northeast entrance through the east metered parking lot overlooking Hanson Field. Groups wishing to have the gated area opened in this lot for access to the University Union may contact Physical Plant at 298-1834 to make arrangements or groups who have scheduled major events through the University Union may also request to have the gated area opened through Union scheduling.

Closure of Murray Street (C.T. Vivian Way) in the construction area will continue from Oct. 18 until further notice, according to Renner. It is estimated that construction of the new $5.7 million facility will take 12-14 months.
