Call For Submissions: Women's Art Exhibit
January 25, 2008
MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University Women's Center seeks submissions from female artists for a "Women's Art: Women's Vision" juried exhibit to be held in March in recognition of National Women's History Month. Deadline for submission of artwork and entry forms is Saturday, Feb. 23.
All female students, staff and faculty, as well as women from the community, are encouraged to participate. Accepted works will be displayed in Western's Leslie F. Malpass Library in the first floor atrium/coffee bar area through March.
Any medium may be submitted. A maximum of three works may be submitted per person. Artwork should be submitted ready to be displayed. Complete submission guidelines are available at www.wc.wiu.edu. Entry fee is $3 per submitted work.
According to Jennifer Howard, a sophomore art major from Bushnell and an organizer of the event, female artists have been under-represented in the past, not appearing in art history books until the 1980's. "The purpose of the exhibit is to support and encourage women to continually create art and recognize themselves as artists," she said.
Women's Center Director Janine Cavicchia explained that the project was organized by women's studies intern Rachael Lane, a senior Board of Trustees/Bachelor of Arts (BOT/BA) major of Macomb during the Fall 2007 semester, and will be implemented by Howard along with other Women's Center staff and volunteers.
