MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - Western Illinois University's Women's Center will offer a T-shirt making session for The Clothesline Project display, a tribute to victims and survivors of sexual and domestic violence, from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 25 in the Women's Center Conference Room, 315/317 Seal Hall (east side).

The project is sponsored by the Women's Center, University Counseling Center, Feminist Action Alliance student organization and Western Illinois Regional Council-Community Action Alliance (WIRC-CAA) Victim Services. All shirts will be added to WIRC-Victim Services' Clothesline Project collection for display throughout April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness month, in the five-county region served by the agency.

The Clothesline Project and accompanying resource tables will on display from
9 a.m.-3 p.m., Wednesday, April 16 at Spoon River College's Macomb campus; from
9 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, April 17 on the mall north of Western's University Union in Macomb; and from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, April 18 at the WIU-Quad Cities campus, in conjunction with the Tunnel of Oppression event. The WIU-QC display is part of a project by Diana Gremanis of Rock Island (IL) for a women's studies course.

According Rebecca Groves, Women's Center graduate assistant from Lodi, (WI), and Feminist Action Alliance adviser, participants can make T-shirts in honor or memory of victims or survivors of rape; incest; sexual assault; battery; harassment because of sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation; physical assault; or those who have died from sexual or domestic violence-related crimes.

"The Clothesline Project allows victims to know they are not alone in their fight against the violence they have faced, and that they can come together as one to show their respect and support to others and heal themselves," Groves said.

The Women's Center is also scheduling T-shirt making sessions for groups and organizations. To schedule a session, call the Women's Center at 309/298-2242.
