FOP Bike Safety Rodeo

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge No. 169 will hold its 10th annual bicycle rodeo and safety day for area children Sunday, May 18.

The activity, open to children ages five to 14, will begin at 1 p.m. on the inside drive of the McDonough County Courthouse Square in Macomb. Included in the day's events will be bicycle inspection and registration, a bicycle safety course and personal safety lectures and fingerprinting/photo IDs. Door prizes, including bike helmets and bicycles, will be awarded.

The 2007 bike rodeo was attended by nearly 70 area children. Door prizes included bicycle helmets, bicycles and several educational handouts. In addition, the WIU FOP assisted various McDonough County organizations including PRIME; McDonough County Girls Softball League; Colchester and Good Hope little leagues; BATS (Bushnell traveling softball team); Cub Scout Pack No. 300; McDonough District Hospital Hospice; Big Brothers/Big Sisters; Special Olympics; St. Jude's; and provided book scholarships for McDonough County high school graduates attending Western. The WIU and Macomb Police FOPs are continuing to renovate the old Girl Scout Camp at Spring Lake to serve area youth activities.
