WIU's 2008-09 Arts Brochure Available; BCA Season Subscription Orders on Sale

MACOMB, IL - - The second annual event guide to many fine visual and performing arts programs during the 2008-2009 academic year in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) at Western Illinois University is now available.

The full-color 36-page brochure, produced by Western's Document and Publication Services, includes the major schedules for the Bureau of Cultural Affairs (BCA), School of Music, University Theatre, University Dance Theatre, Tri States Public Radio Celebration Concerts, WIU Art Gallery exhibitions and Performing Arts Society events. More than 55 major events descriptions, as well as information on ordering tickets, parking maps, a tear-out order form, a convenient calendar and contact information are included in the guide.

BCA shows include the Freddy Cole Quartet, Sept. 12; "Sweeney Todd," Nov. 11; "Annie," April 8; and "The Duke Ellington Orchestra," May 5. This year's School of Music feature events include the Jazz Showcase Concert, Sept. 19; Holiday Festival of Choirs, Nov. 20; Madrigal Dinners, Dec. 5-6; Jazz Festival, Feb. 19-21; Showcase of Bands, Feb. 27-28; and the New Music Festival, March 9-11. University Theatre will present six mainstage productions including "The Lion in Winter," Oct. 22-25, and "Urinetown: The Musical," Feb. 25-28. The Western Illinois Art Gallery, which is open free to the public, offers a variety of exhibitions throughout the year, including a series on health and healing to complement the University's yearlong theme: Health and Fitness – Challenges and Responsibilities; as well as a series on politics and political cartoons.

Bureau of Cultural Affairs season subscription orders of three shows or more are on sale through Wednesday, Aug. 13 for the public. Discounts on season subscription orders are available for seniors 62 and older, youth 17 and younger and WIU employees and students with valid IDs only through Aug. 13. Individual tickets and FlexBook options may be purchased through the Hainline Theatre Box Office, located on Western Avenue, from noon-5 p.m. weekdays, beginning Wednesday, Aug. 27. The box office telephone is (309) 298-2900. Payment by checks should be made payable to "Hainline Theatre Box Office."

Tickets for the BCA series, some School of Music events, the University Theatre Mainstage series (both subscription and individual tickets) and University Dance Theatre concerts may be purchased by using the perforated order form in the guide. Tickets for Celebration Concerts must be purchased through Tri States Public Radio, toll-free, (800) 895-2912 or (309) 298-1873. Art Gallery events and some School of Music events are open free to the public and require no advance registration.
