MACOMB, IL -- To welcome the start of a new school year -- and to bring WIU and Macomb residents together, the Community-University Partnership Program (CUPP) will sponsor the fifth annual Welcome Back Block Party from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26 on the Sherman Hall front lawn.

"The block party is a wonderful opportunity for our students to get to know members of the Macomb community. It is an event we look forward to co-hosting every year," said WIU President Al Goldfarb.

The event is open free to the public. Entertainment will be held throughout the party and food will be provided. Other activities include games for children of all ages -- complete with prizes, Fatal Vision goggles, various "bounce houses" and an "obstacle-course" inflatable slide.

"I'd like to encourage Macomb residents and members of the WIU community to come out for an evening of fun, food and getting acquainted," said Macomb Mayor Mick Wisslead.

Volunteers are needed to assist with the set-up and tear down of the event, as well as working at the various activities. If available to help, contact Ann Comerford at the WIU Office of Student Activities at (309) 298-3232.

CUPP was established to promote better understanding and improved relations between the University and constituencies; to encourage positive University and community contacts; and to establish mutual trust. CUPP focuses on such issues as the relationship between residents and law enforcement organizations, student and community interactions and inclusiveness.
