Biography

Dr. Guiyou Huang began his term as Western Illinois University's 12th president on January 1, 2021. Before joining Western, Dr. Huang was the president of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Previously, he served as the chancellor of Louisiana State University of Alexandria.

Dr. Huang has also held a variety of administrative and academic positions at Norwich University (Northfield, VT), St. Thomas University (Miami, FL), Grand Valley State University (Allendale, MI), Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Lehigh University (Bethlehem, PA), Texas A&M University at College Station, Beijing University, and Qufu Normal University (Shandong, China).

An author and editor of 13 books, as well as numerous essays and articles, Dr. Huang earned his doctorate in English from Texas A&M University at College Station; completed graduate studies in English from Beijing University; and earned his bachelor's degree from Qufu Normal University. In addition, he is a 2012 graduate of the Harvard Institute for Educational Management, among other Harvard institutes.

Dr. Huang is a member of the elite Committee of 100, which is a non-partisan leadership organization composed of approximately 130 extraordinary Chinese Americans in business, government, education and the arts, and the Illinois Commission on Equitable Public University Funding. He is also on the Missouri Valley Football Presidents Council and the Summit League President's Council, and serves as a member of local organizations in Macomb and the Quad Cities.

Dr. Huang and his wife, Dr. Jennifer Qian, have a daughter, Claire, who is a seventh grader, and a son, George, who recently graduated from Rice University in Texas.
