Bell Named Director of Athletics

AD Tommy BellJames (Tommy) Bell, director of intercollegiate athletics, recreation and intramurals, Indiana University-Purdue University, Ft. Wayne (IPFW), has been named director of athletics at Western Illinois University, according to Gary Biller, vice president of student services. Bell, who will begin his duties Aug. 12, becomes the sixth Leathernecks athletics director since 1926.

"Tommy brings many years of experience to Western," said President Jack Thomas. "His success in fundraising and leadership will further enhance Western Illinois University's athletic programs. Tommy will put administrative measures in place to help Western win championships in multiple sports. He will also continue to make certain that intercollegiate athletics upholds the academic standards and integrity of our student-athletes."

Save the Date for Celebrating Town & Gown

President Thomas and Mayor InmanKick off Western Illinois University's Homecoming 2013 festivities with the annual Celebrating Town & Gown event slated for 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3 at The Forum in Macomb. In addition to celebrating the past year's accomplishments of WIU President Jack Thomas and Macomb Mayor Mike Inman, the event this year will serve as the venue for the unveiling of the Rocky on Parade public art project.

According to Alumni Director Amy Spelman ‘98, at Celebrating Town & Gown 2013, the Rocky on Parade sponsors will be on hand as the 13 special Rocky sculptures are unveiled for the very first time. Also during the event, the Honorary Alumni and Town & Gown Awards will be presented.

Col. Rock"We hope you will save the date and join us for a great evening in Macomb," Spelman said. "We are always excited to hear from President Thomas and Mayor Inman about the past year at WIU and in Macomb, along with giving our annual alumni awards. This year's event will be even more exciting as this will be the first time the public will be able to see the Rocky on Parade sculptures."

WIU, EICC Agreement: Business Programs

Prospective college students interested in pursuing degrees in human resource management, management, marketing and supply chain management can now complete classes at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) and transfer immediately to Western Illinois University as part of new dual enrollment program.

The new 2+2 agreement between EICC and WIU allows students the opportunity to complete general education and related courses at EICC and then complete a seamless transfer to Western's campuses in Macomb or Moline to complete a bachelor's degree.

"This latest partnership with Eastern Iowa Community Colleges provides yet another accessible option for individuals who want to continue their education. We look forward to continuing to work with EICC to provide additional agreements that benefit students in the region," said WIU Admissions Director Andy Borst.

WIU Homecoming and Reunion 2013 are Less Than Three Months Away

Homecoming 2013

Alumni and friends are invited back to Western Illinois University's 90th Homecoming Celebration – The Rocky Games—Western Is United.

Western's Alumni Association will welcome back past students and friends for activities and get-togethers Friday (Oct. 11) and Saturday (Oct. 12) for Homecoming and to celebrate the official 25/40/50/60 Year Reunion.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, Oct. 11 with the All-Alumni Social at the Alumni House. Saturday Homecoming activities include the Old Stompin' Ground Runaround; complimentary breakfast; the Reunion Recognition brunch; Homecoming Parade; lunch at "The Right Place," the big tent north of Hanson Field; and the Homecoming football game. Then, cheer on your Fighting Leathernecks as they play South Dakota State.
