Harris Signs with Nike

ChrisDell Harris photoWestern Illinois track and field standout ChrisDell Harris graduated with the class of 2010 and has moved on to a contract with the Nike Developmental Team. The Wichita, Kan., native will be living in Kansas City, Mo., as she trains and competes with Nike.

“Western Illinois has been very good to me,” Harris said. “There are so many people that helped me get to where I am today. I could name people, but I would miss someone. I don’t want to leave anyone out because a lot of people, from the support staff to coaches and professors have all helped me to get where I am. I could go on for days with all of the people that have pushed me to succeed. I could name an influence in every hall I’ve had a class in. Western is like a family and that’s what I believe in.”

The Shaymus Relays, a fund raiser for Shaymus Guinn (son of women’s soccer coach Tony Guinn) and the Guinn family is put on by members of the Western Illinois track and field and cross country teams and headed by senior Eric Anerino and junior Michael McGraw. Shaymus continues to battle Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. For the second-straight year, the relays brought support and participation from all over campus and the Macomb community.

Dr. Tim Van Alstine Blog

Dr. Tim Van Alstine photoOver the past several months, I have been encouraged to start my own blog.  Considering that as Director of Athletics, I do not have my own Facebook page nor do I have a Twitter account, several folks external to the University suggested the blog as a communication vehicle beyond the traditional press release.  So, as I join the multi-media age, this entry will be the first, in what I anticipate being a monthly blog about some of the behind the scenes activities within the Leatherneck Athletics Department.
