LB Sports Productions Joins Leatherneck Sports Network

The Leatherneck Sports Network announced a partnership with LB Sports Productions for the upcoming season, in which the entire 2010 Leatherneck Football campaign will be broadcast on the radio. LB Sports Productions will carry additional Leatherneck sporting events throughout 2010-11.

LB Sports Productions owns WRMS (94.3 FM) in Beardstown, WVIL (101.3 FM) in Virginia, and WKXQ (92.5 FM) in Rushville. The signal covers 22 counties throughout west central Illinois. Western football will be carried on WRMS, and there will also be a link on www.wrmsfm.com to listen to the games on the internet.

Men's Basketball to play in 2010 Cancun Challenge

Western Illinois men's basketball, in partnership with Triple Crown Sports, has been selected to play in the 2010 Cancun Challenge. The four-game tournament will take place from November 18-24.

Head coach Jim Molinari and the Fighting Leathernecks travel to Missouri on November 18, then play at Wyoming on November 20 in the first two rounds of the Challenge. The team will fly from Denver to Cancun, Mexico, and finish with two additional games.

Lazowski Named Leatherneck Volleyball Assistant Coach

Western Illinois head volleyball coach Kym McKay has announced Eric Lazowski as the new assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Leatherneck volleyball.

“Eric separated from the other candidates in the pool because of his coaching experience within the Iowa and quad cities areas,” McKay said. “He has past and current ties to various clubs and coaches in this region and this will become valuable as he takes on the responsibilities as the program’s recruiting coordinator.”

Green Named Semifinalist for Lowe's Senior CLASS Award

Western Illinois women's soccer player Jenny Green (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) has been named as one of 30 semifinalists for the 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.

"I feel very honored to be named as one of the semifinalists," Green said. "This would not be possible without the support of my teammates and my coaches."

The award is given annually to an NCAA Division I women's soccer student-athlete who shows excellence in four areas; community, classroom, character and competition.

Andrew Godfrey Takes Summer Tournament

Western Illinois golfer Andrew Godfrey was able to win the Lake-Porter Tournament on Sunday, August 8th at Palmira Golf Club in St. John, Ind.

Godfrey won the open division title after an exhausting playoff.  He followed up a day one 77 with a day two 72 while his opponent Terry Werner, the 2008 champion, had the same scores after 36 holes. Both golfers endured six playoff holes until Godfrey was able to par on the seventh hole and take home the title. He had previously been a runner-up at the event.
