Centennial Honors College

Busy Times for the Centennial Honors College

The summer and early fall once again have been active times in the Centennial Honors College.

During the Summer Orientation and Registration Program, the college recruited 90 new first-year students.

At Orientation Night on August 24, the college greeted 120 students, faculty, and staff to the new academic year. President Al Goldfarb and Provost Jack Thomas extended an official welcome to students who enjoyed snacks, games, and the launch of the “Flat Bill” contest.

Over the next several weeks, teams of honors students discovered a number of sites around campus and town, earning points for the number of photos taken of the team members with a foot-high cut outs of Director Bill Knox in various Western Illinois University costumes. The "Green Star Team" placed first and was awarded with a pizza dinner in town.

At Homecoming, the Student Honors Association placed first in the Small Organization category for Rocky’s Regatta—successfully racing their self-built cardboard boat across Lake Everly. More programs are planned for the month ahead!

With the move of Honors Residence floors to Tanner and Bayliss, the residence and college staff will present a series of programs in the coming months, utilizing the many fine facilities available, ranging from the Underground Café, to the new large-screen TVs, and computer lab.
Whenever you plan to visit campus, please call ahead to visit the Honors College, located on the main floor of the Leslie F. Malpass Library.
