President Goldfarb Presents State of the University Address
WIU President Al Goldfarb, who will retire June 30, 2011 after nine years as president, presented his final State of the University address at the 17th Annual Founders Day celebration Sept. 23 on the WIU-Macomb and -Quad Cities campuses.
Goldfarb reviewed the numerous honors bestowed on WIU in the past year and spoke about the challenging budget times.

Jackie Thompson Announces Retirement
2003 Alumni Achievement Award recipient Jackie Thompson '85 MS-ED '94, who has served as vice president of administrative services at Western Illinois University since 1997, will retire July 31, 2011 after 41 years of service. A reception will be announced at a later date.
Thompson was named vice president of administrative services at Western in December 1997. She had served as interim vice president, and prior to that role she was a special assistant to the vice president for administrative services and director of auxiliary services. In her position she is responsible for the University’s business services, human resources, purchasing, Administrative Information Management Systems, physical plant, public safety and document and publication services. Thompson also oversees the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Executive Institute and Media Resource Center. She has worked at Western since 1970.

New Alumni Council Members
Six new members will serve the Western Illinois University Alumni Council for the 2010-2011 year. They include Harvey Ahitow ’68,
Chuck Giger ’70,
Brett Goad ’74 ’76, Fred Longacre ’64, Brian Savage ’73 and Kathy Sullivan ’78.
Comprised of 25 alumni appointed to three-year terms and the president of the Student Alumni Association, the Alumni Council represents the interests of Western’s more than 105,000 alumni.

Two Great St. Louis Locations, Two Great Events
Your WIU Alumni Association is headed to St. Louis this month for two great events! On Saturday, October 16, we will be at The Big Bang for an evening of entertainment and dueling pianos! Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and be sure to arrive before 6:00 p.m. to pay no admission fee. Music will begin at 6:30 p.m. On Sunday, October 17, we will be at the Missouri Athletic Club Parking Lot for a pregame social and then we will head to the Edward Jones Dome to watch an NFL showdown between the St. Louis Rams and San Diego Chargers featuring WIU Alumnus Mike Scifres '02.
