Quad Cities Campus
Building One Construction Continues

Phase 1 construction continues on the Western Illinois University-Quad Cities Riverfront Campus. Phase 1 includes renovation and remodeling of approximately 60,000 square feet of the former John Deere Technical Center. WIU-Quad Cities current facility at 60th Street and John Deere Road will be maintained to supplement activities at the Riverfront Campus. Western Illinois University-Quad Cities will ensure that both facilities are used at optimal productivity and efficiently (Illinois Commitment, Goal 6). Phase I development will begin to establish the infrastructure to ultimately support over 5,000 non-traditional, place-bound, working professionals in a commuter-based environment. The new Western Illinois University-Quad Cities Riverfront Campus will support the University´s academic programs, services that support students, and administration.
Construction completed the past 30 days includes; removal of the temporary flood protection that surrounded the building, the continued installation of CMUs (concrete masonry unit) to the west building addition and continued brick veneer installation around the exterior of the building. Flashing and spray fluid air barrier, along with the glazing system continue to be installed at numerous places around the building. The exterior framing and sheathing was installed at numerous places around the site and the metal stud installation on the 2nd floor continues. Drywall was installed to parts of the first floor that did not previously have it, and in other locations the drywall was taped and finished. Installation of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning), plumbing, sprinklers and some electrical occurred on both the first and second floors. The mechanical rough-ins on the west additions have begun, along with data cabling and the installation of the Zinc shingles.
Construction to be completed in the next 30 days includes; finishing the CMU (concrete masonry unit) on the tiered classroom addition, completing the brick veneer on the remainder of the site and finishing the installation of the fluid air barrier. Framing will continue over many different places on the site, along with the glazing system and the drywall on the first and second floor. Tape and finish of drywall will continue, as will the HVAC, electrical, plumbing and sprinkler installations. The roof should be completed within the next 30 days, and so will the ceramic floor, wall tiles and painting on the second floor. The geothermal well tie-ins should be completed and the first floor should receive its first coat of paint within the next 30 days. Flooring on the second floor will begin, along with the insulation of the metal panels and the site piping and inlets. Data cabling will continue, and so will the installation of the Zinc shingles. And last but not least, the trellis should be installed at the end of this 30-day period.
