Leatherneck Golf Classic Set for July 15
Current Leatherneck Club members are invited to the 34th annual Leatherneck Golf Classic to be held on Friday, July 15, at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course. The annual fundraising event will open on Thursday, July 14, with a Pre-Classic party at the Macomb Country Club from
6-9 p.m. Golf begins at 12 noon on Friday with dinner and the awards banquet to follow.
The event is open to all current Leatherneck Club members. Cost for the golf outing and dinner party is $100, those interested in the dinner party only cost is $25.

Hanson Field Undergoes Turf Installation
Hanson Field, the home of Western Illinois Leatherneck Football, will be undergoing a major renovation this summer. According to Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Dr. Tim Van Alstine, the current natural grass field will be removed and a Matrix Turf brand artificial surface will be installed by Hellas Construction. The project is officially underway.
Funds for the Matrix Turf were approved by the University's Student Government Association through student enhancement fees. The new surface will be completed by late August. The Leathernecks open their home schedule on September 10 against Jacksonville. The track and field enhancements are scheduled to be completed in late September.

Soccer Alumni Celebration August 20
The 2011 Western Illinois men's soccer schedule will begin on Saturday, August 20 with an exhibition against Graceland but that will not be the only event that weekend.
Join head men's soccer coach Dr. Eric Johnson and soccer alumni for a weekend full of activities. There will also be a birthday celebration for former coach John MacKenzie who will be turning 75. MacKenzie spent 29 seasons coaching the Purple & Gold and led the fundraising for the soccer field that bears his name. The legendary coach was named Midwest Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1995.

Two Leatherneck Programs Honored by Summit League
The Western Illinois softball and women's track & field squads received the Summit League's 2010-11 Team Academic Achievement Award, as announced by the league office recently.
The award, given in each of the conference's 19 sports, is based on the percentage of list-eligible student athletes. The Fighting Leatherneck softball (55 percent) and women's track & field (52 percent) programs had the highest percentage of their eligible student-athletes named to the Commissioner's List. The honor is the second-straight for the Western Illinois softball team, who also won the 2009-10 Team Academic Achievement Award.

Leathernecks Raise Over $11,000 Through Community Service Efforts
Western Illinois University student-athletes tallied 2,577 hours of community service and raised $11,045 to benefit local and national organizations during the 2010-11 academic year.
Western Illinois University student-athletes once again volunteered time in the Macomb community with the 'Rocky's Reach' program. Rocky's Reach is in its second year and gives Leatherneck student-athletes the opportunity to interact with elementary-age children by playing board games, recess activities and mentoring.

Garrett Bolt Selected on Day Two of 2011 MLB Draft
The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Leatherneck right-hander Garrett Bolt (Wheeler, Mich./Muskegon C.C.) in the 23rd round (704th overall) on Tuesday during day two of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
The 6-4 junior appeared in 15 games for Western Illinois this season including six appearances where he did not allow a run. Bolt collected three consecutive appearances during his first four outings without allowing a run against Georgia State, Kansas State and Indiana State.

Glazier Honored with FCS ADA Scholarship
Western Illinois Football All-American Kyle Glazier (Geneseo/Geneseo) was honored at a recent luncheon during the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) convention held at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Florida. Glazier was one of two recipients of the 10th annual Division I Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award postgraduate scholarship given by the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA).
Glazier and Tim McGraw of Northern Colorado were chosen from a group of seven finalists from the 2010 FCS ADA Academic All-Star team. Each receives a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship.
