Biller Named Vice President for Student Services
Gary Biller, vice president for student services at Arkansas Tech University, has been named vice president for student services at Western Illinois University, effective July 1, according to President-Elect Jack Thomas. He replaces Garry Johnson, who will retire June 30 after 31 years of service.
Biller has served as vice president for student services at Arkansas Tech University since July 2000. Prior to that, he was the vice president for student affairs at Dickinson (ND) State University (October 1991-July 2000); the director of student development services at the University of Alabama, Huntsville (March 1987-October 1991); and assistant director of the student assistance center (December 1985-August 1986). Biller has also served as an academic program coordinator (July 1984-December 1985) and assistant resident director and resident director (January 1983-June 1984) at the University of Kansas; and the director of orientation programs (June 1978-August 1982) and instructor and counselor (October 1976-August 1982) at Wichita State University.

DeWees Named Interim VPAS
Julie DeWees '83 MBA '91, director of the budget office at Western Illinois University, has been named the interim vice president for administrative services, effective June 30. She replaces Jackie Thompson '85 MS-ED '94, who will retire June 29 after 41 years of service. A national search will begin in Fall 2011.
"I would like to thank members of the search committee for their hard work and efforts during the recent search, which did not result in the appointment of a new vice president," said Provost and President-Elect Jack Thomas. "After much deliberation, I believe that given the fiscal situation facing the University, appointing Julie as interim vice president for administrative services will provide consistency within the division and for the University until a permanent replacement is named. Julie is an extremely well-respected member of the Western Illinois University community."
DeWees began her career at Western in March 1986 as an accounting clerk in Human Resources. In January 1993 she joined the budget office as a budget analyst I and was named assistant budget officer in June 1997. She was named to her current position in April 2005.

Longtime Alumni Association Staffer Terra Litchfield Retires
Terra Litchfield of Western Illinois University's Alumni Programs retired May 31 after 17 years of service. Litchfield began her career with the Alumni Association in 1994 and eventually became a programmer with responsibility for the entire Foundation and Alumni database and the more than 100,000 records it contains.
"Terra's work ethic, the relationships she built across campus, her level of knowledge working with our databases, her sense of humor and her positive attitude have been invaluable and so greatly appreciated over the years," said Amy Spelman, director of Alumni Programs. "I know I speak for the entire Alumni staff, she will be greatly missed."
"On behalf of the more than 115,000 member Alumni Association, I thank Terra for her tireless efforts in protecting the integrity of our alumni database," said Brad Bainter, vice president for advancement and public services. "Since Terra joined the staff in 1994, this database has grown from 73,391 records to the present 116,385. Thanks to her work, our alumni know their information is safe and secure which in turn keeps them reconnected with their alma mater."
