Building One Construction Continues

Phase 1 construction continues on the Western Illinois University-Quad Cities Riverfront Campus. Phase 1 includes renovation and remodeling of approximately 60,000 square feet of the former John Deere Technical Center. WIU-Quad Cities current facility at 60th Street and John Deere Road will be maintained to supplement activities at the Riverfront Campus. Western Illinois University-Quad Cities will ensure that both facilities are used at optimal productivity and efficiently (Illinois Commitment, Goal 6). Phase I development will begin to establish the infrastructure to ultimately support over 5,000 non-traditional, place-bound, working professionals in a commuter-based environment. The new Western Illinois University-Quad Cities Riverfront Campus will support the University´s academic programs, services that support students, and administration.

Construction completed the past 30 days includes installation of the glazing system; miscellaneous exterior framing and sheathing; taping and finishing drywall in several locations; installation of interior plumbing and sprinkler systems, along with interior electrical installation on the first and second floors; application of zinc shingles and insulated panel installation, as well as mechanical rough-ins for the west edition; installation of the trellis and the fluid applied air barrier; painting the first floor with the prime and first coat of paint, as well as the finish coat on the second floor; the ceiling grid installation has been started on the first floor and ceiling tile installation has begun on the second floor and main power transformers have been energized and concrete work has started on site.

Construction to be completed in the next 30 days includes finishing the interior framing where needed and finishing the glazing systems; completing drywall installation at miscellaneous locations on the first and second floors, as well as taping and finishing; ceramic floor and wall tile completion on the first floor and finishing the painting on the second floor; completing the small canopy roofing; completing installation of zinc shingles and insulated metal panel; completing installation of casework, asphalt parking lot and stripping, along with site concrete and grading; continuing HVAC/electrical/plumbing/sprinkler installation; continuing flooring installation on the second floor and routing data cabling throughout the building; starting and completing elevator installation; installing the glass rail system and installing toilet components and accessories.
