Military Science

CPT William (Billy) Hertel was assigned as Assistant Professor of Military Science on 15 January 2008.  He came from FT Knox, KY where he graduated from the Maneuver Captain Career Course.  He is a graduate of Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration in 2003. 

Prior assignments as an officer include Avenger Platoon Leader of Alpha Battery, 1-44 ADA 4ID; Executive Officer of Bravo Troop, 8-10 CAV, 4ID; S4 Officer of 8-10 CAV, 4ID.  He served 2 tours in Iraq at FOB Ironhorse (Tikrit) and FOB Falcon / Liberty (Baghdad) with 4ID.

CPT Hertel is a graduate of the ADA Basic Course, Armor Maneuver Captain Career Course, and Airborne School.  His military awards include the Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Parachutist Badge, and the Expert Infantrymen Badge. 

CPT Hertel served 5 years as an enlistedmen before going to college.  He enlisted as an Airborne Infantrymen (11HP Anti-Tank Gunner) assigned to 3-504th PIR, 82nd and later reclassed as a M1A1 crewmember (19K) assigned to 1-12th CAV, 1st CAV.  While attending college he was assigned to 386th EN with the Texas National Guard as a SMP Cadet. 

He is married with no children.  Both he and his wife are from Corpus Christi, Texas.
